With everything good, around 18. Kevin says they run forever, but you may experience transmission problems around 150K. He says they're a great vehicle. Automatic or manual?

Be careful, Chevy had a lot of electrical problems in '99 and '01 in certain models. I'm pretty sure the trucks had theirs in '99, when they first switched over to the new body style. Other than that, they're pretty solid. Expect between 15-20, depending on driving style. Obviously it'll drop if you have it in 4WD a lot.

I have one.

Tranny at 175k
Anti lock brake module at 40k
Will rust on the drivers side cab corner and gas door

Overall a trusty truck. The tranny issues are the only thing that stranded me.

4 wheel drive is solid. Beef up the suspension, as it has a car ride feel to it. It will likely develop a slow oil leak around the rear seal for the engine..

Liz is correct on mileage. I need to replace plugs, so mine is down a bit right now, but fresh plugs will take it back to 18'ish.

the engine will take some getting used to if you are accustom to the older 350's. They rev a lot higher to get into the power. Good engine though..

They like to snap off manifold bolts too. The one is a real bizatch to get to, drivers side rear. My Brother inlaw (mechanic) replace 6 of them for me one day and said he didn't even attempt the last one. "it'll be fine!"

I own 2 of the 99 vintage G.M.

My 99 5.7 L. Suburban will run 17-18 on the hard roads

My 99 7.4 L. Crew Cab Dually will run 14-15

expect 16-19 out of the 5.3

I have a 2000 with a 5.3 that gets 14.4-15.6 consistantly. If I run her hard 80mph+ I get 13.3. Towing 2 sleds or 4wheelers with one in the bed I get 13.6. I have the dreaded electrical problem that I have had for 3 years (Disco lights on my dash). I lost my trasfer case in August but it has 168,000 miles on it. It is running great and loaded for hunting/trapping season.

I have replaced my 4wheel driver selector switch and that is the only other thing I have replaced. (other than batteries, brakes, tires)

Mileage wise, my 99 gets 16-19. Electrical problems in one taillight. One thing to have checked, if the truck comes from a state that uses calcium chloride mixed with the road salt, are the brake lines. They may fail, like mine did, every one of them at the same time, blowing apart due to the reactions with the calcium chloride is all my mechanic could figure out.

transmissions are a problem with these model chevy's, they added the overdrive but didn't change the size of housing for the gears.....i aint a mechanic just someone that knows about them told me that lol.

but with that said, i have a 2000 model chevy z71 i got 300k on it before the tranny went.

very dependable truck.

i get about 17 or so mpg. depending on the speed and towing.

I know I am going to get some flack for the non-dimestic but I bought a 2005 Nissan Frontier (4x4 manual) with less than 30k miles for less than $10k. All I do is change the oil. I get 20 mpg every tank. Pretty good value in my mind.

Miller, I have an '06 Chevy and I average 17.3 mpg. The newer ones do get a little better mileage but what ever you do don't fall for the cheap ethanol fuel. It was $.50 a gallon cheaper when gas was high and since I have the flex fuel engine I ran a tank full of E85. It actually cost me $6.00 more for 20 gallons mileage wise versus paying more. My mileage dropped down to 12 or 13 running E85.

I drive daily a 1999 Silverado, V-8 with 223000 mile (just turned yesterday). Runs like a top and get 16-17 mpg. I love my truck. Also hardly any rust, it looks very nice.

I've got a 2002 ext cab with the 5.3 with about 190,000 miles, best I've gotten was 18.5 mpg all highway miles, but realistically average about 15-16, normal driving conditions. I also had to have the tranny rebuilt at about 175,000, but it was my own fault, a seal went out and I didn't catch it in time, burnt out OD and 3rd. Had I noticed the bad seal, I would have probably just had to replace that. In any event, I really like it and for a full size truck, I think the gas mileage is pretty good.

By the way, I also have a 1999 with the 4.9 v-8, regular cab, and get worse mileage with that one.

I bought mine brand new in 99. Still drive it daily. Put in 2 ignition switches, one fuel pump, brake pads on the rear, one tune up. Got just over 255,000. No tranny probs yet. Always got 17 or a little better, Never 18. Maintenance goes a LONG way on any vehicle. Unfortunately you don't know what you're getting with a used vehicle.

My buddy Rick has one. Been used and abused. Tranny, transfer case and front differential rebuilt between 150 and 175k at different times. I would steer clear myself but rick loves it. Matt
