Nice tip guys. The few sets I ran last year, I started using binoculars to check them. Hard to break the urge to go see what's happening sometimes.

I have heard of newer trappers (which I still am) going out and scouting and finding super hot spots in from May-July, and when they go back to set it, there seems to be a great lacking in coyote sign and their catch it limited.

I try to wait until...well I guess about now-ish to scout my main planned locations. Also, I take all the scent control to the max just like I was setting. I don't go grabbing branches and logs and relocate them too close to the opener either. At least a month or two before the season while taking super caution with scent.

Coyotes , being predators, will ALWAYS be where the food sourse is...which is why, during cold winters, they are easy to bring in with large bait piles.

I'm suprised that more trappers who trap coyotes don't use this.

You CAN build a location!

I have seen many a track in fresh snow where a coyote did just THAT!

Squirt of urine and hardly slowed down!

I just read all five pages and my head is about to explode.

I am totally new to trapping and am finding it to be a very intricate art form.

Thanks to everyone for all of your priceless knowledge!

Please keep it coming, and as a beginner, the pictures really help me get a better understanding of the concepts.

That alone is why I take time to add information to Trapperman.
Sharing information with trappers, both old and new, from all over the globe is worth it's weight in GOLD to me.
I have had the pleasure of conversing with trappers from the UK, New Zealand, Australia, Every Provience of Canada, Alaska, Hawa!!, and almost every state in the lower 48.
Glad you are able to learn something from it, as well as be entertained.

Now go catch something! smile

MAUMAU, it really isn't what I would say an art form. That is what is unique about coyotes as they require a little extra attention.

His mouth isn't firmly clamped over the frame and dog of your trap? Hahaha.
