With Len returning to the forum, it reminded me of something I brought up towards the end of last year. What do you guys think of each of us starting our own trapping journals to cut down on new topics when the season starts. I know for one that I am guilty of coming home every weekend and starting a new topic to show my weekend adventures. In the past Len has done an outstanding job and last year I know I wasn't the only one that enjoyed Bearbait's and Kusko's journals. I am in no way trying to start a competition between us trappers, just an easier way to keep track of our seasons. Input??

Sounds like a great idea! Thanks for bring that to the top again. Now the tough part, follow through with pictures and updates!

I look forward to reading and seeing what everyone is up to. The impromptu 'how to / how we did' is always educational and worthy of sharing here and in other places (think ATA articles). With another 3-4 weeks before we can cross the Tanana I should have plenty of time to get the journal ready!

Sounds great! Though mine is sure to end up being designated "The Cheechako's Trapline Journal" or some such.... laugh

Would make the wilderness forum even better, imo, if everyone chimed in. Speaking as someone who is trapping in the bush for the first time, I can definitely say that past journals have been a huge wealth of info, and keeping one myself would open up suggestions from others that can only help out......

Steve, I like the idea biggest problem I have is slowing down taking the pictures and taking the time to download. I was planning on doing something more this year as I don't have to spend 8 hours a day chained to a desk

Sounds like a great idea Steve. Us less fortunate ones will be able to find them easier. (I think)....

I won't be trapping hard this year, but I will keep a journal of my little lines.

I really like the idea. The few times I have been on in the last year the most memorable was following the journals as Steve pointed out. It really gives some long term and ongoing perspective to what it take to run an Alaskan Trapline.
All in one place it offers a very beneficial teaching tool for new trappers as AKtrapper26 mentioned.
I am in. It also would make it a lot easier to put into a DVD format with the journal and photos all together. A dvd of Alaskan Trapping Journals could be put together and used as an additional fundraiser perhaps.

I'd like to reserve one in advance. smile

I plan on taking as much video as possible this season, as this year I will be out more for the experiences than the check at the end. If a DVD becomes a project I would be glad to help out with production, compiling, etc...

Sounds like a great idea. I loved reading the couple journals we had last year. It probably won't benifit us new guys but it will give everyone else a good laugh. I'm in, even if does prove Skinny and me are idiots when chasing critters.

Smalltimetrapper,

Worrying about the size of your journal and how it compares to others' journals is not a healthy exercise....!

I'd like to see a journal forum set up, just for journals and pics, I have a hard time remembering which one I have read or not read. Make them a read/view only post. Updates are kinda like waiting for the TPC or ffg to come in the mail box.
