howdy all i am new to this site also and would like some feedback on the otter population in other states. Here in SE Kansas they were introduced in the 80's and for the past 3 years anyway several have been caught. The state makes you call immediately after catching one and turn it in or release it if it alive. I caught and turned 8 last year and am wondering if their population is really all that fragile.

k'koon...

i talked to matt peak for an hour at the kansas convention about otter... should be a season on them year after next... they are migrating from missouri..

i have caught two of them... first one in 06' last one last spring...

the population is growing rapidly... the best way for us to get to trap them is to report them....

Yeh, I heard that a couple pair were released just north of Tuttle Creek BUT asked the warden and he didn't know anything about it. Missouri has a good population of river otter.

A freind of mine was fishing at counsel grove and saw one 3-4 years ago. I love to water trap and I have never caught or seen any otter and I live just North on Wichita. I hope we get a strong population so we can trap them.

Careful what you wish for. They have gone from nearly exterpated to a real problem, destroying the fishery's. The state is now beggin and paying guys to trap them.

our local fish and game guy said that they were released in 86 in the mined land wildlife areas. Matt Peek has told me for the last two years that a season was two years away. I know that without a season or a salvage program they will never know how many that we have because alot of guys pitch them or have someone sell them because we are so close to Missouri
