I think the best way to trap them is to target a different animal.

yep...there are ways though, some of which i will try again, last year i was doin good, and never seen the scent gland, and a childly urge came over me to "pop" it by stomping it...had to make a trip to town for new pair of school shoes.

I have skinned most of mine without cutting the glands. My problem is that I can't find the glands to extract the essence, much to my mother's relief.

they are right under the anal hole. look like 2 big testecals.

Just skinned a road killed skunk today. Nice looking fur and 10cc of essence... the critter is on a stretching board now. Tom

I trap them and get 5 dollars for the whole skunk.
