i have a husky that is coughing and gagging alot, and spitting up flem. basically its like attacks once an hour or so he will do it for a few minutes. then he will be fine for a little while, he is eating fine and feels fine otherwise. im thinking maybe worms? so i gave him meds yesterday for round hook and tape worms. what else can i do or look for other than going to a vet?

could be roundworm, could be kennel cough. When was the dog last vaccinated for bordetella?

8 in one often doesn't include kennel cough. It's a seperate vaccine.

Has it been medicated for heart worms? If not, have him tested for heart worms. When they migrate to the lungs, they cause coughing fits after physical activity or runing, otherwise they may show fatigue or lack of energy sometimes.

I have seen heart worms produce these symptoms. Out of the range of heavy heart worm populations some vets don't know to test for them.

Is he shedding really bad right now like my malamute is? Our dog was doing a bunch of gagging last fall as a young dog and the vet did all the tests and they came back fine. It seems he had been biting at his fur because he was shedding badly and it made him itch. He was gagging from all the loose hair sticking in his throat. I guess I am just trying to give you a better case scenario.

yeah i thought of heart worms but the reading i done on it showed fatigue and shortness of breath, he seems like he does it when lounging around , but running doesnt seem to bring it on! we were up camp over the weekend and he gagged a little here and there but not much, last night and this morning he went into gagging awful and puking flame, he seems better since morning. im hoping its worms and the meds clear it up! but no he hasnt been biting from shedding or anything

Actually, many of the heavy coated breeds go through a shedding period right about now. Bandit is loosing dead fur in clumps right now. He always does. Despite his fall shed (and he has a spring one as well) he is super fluffy, and has no trouble sleeping on the snow. Not like labs or hounds.
