For you fellas that do extracting, how many ounces can you get out of one skunk? 3 or more?
and for the young ones, how much?
and wheres the best market to sell the stuff, and what bases can you mix it with? vaselean, ect...

The most I have ever got out of a mature skunk was just under an ounce.

i got one in a conni. i stuck both sides and got about the same amount from each side. i have a few anise oil bottles, ect...
that are about a one ounce bottles. i think i could have filled three of them with what i got out of that skunk.

3ozs...estimate.
i used it two fill a couple other jars, and made a paste out of it.

i'm thinking with a conni, the are less likely to spray?
am i right?

I have found that with a conibear that they may leak a little but generally do not release all.
I usually have an average of 20cc
There is 30cc in an ounce.
If you were even near 3 oz that would be VERY, VERY RARE

thanks ks skunkman. acording to what you say, and by looking at my 12m scringe, i had about 15ccs in total.
about a half ounce.

i suppose the volume varys in difrent kinds of liquids.
it said one ounce on my anice oil bottles and spearmint bottles.

The KS skunkman has the numbers and the records when it comes to skunk statistics and essence collection. All future information needed in this area should be directed to him.

My avg. collection from our Pa. shunks is about 1/2 oz in total extraction from both pods.A rare occasion I will get almost 3/4 oz. but that is rare.

To get 3oz. from one skunk would be extremely rare as stated in my 40 years of experience.

what is the best way to store the essense? I have 2 skunks now I am gonna drain. Are you better off removing the glands or just putting need in next to vent?

..You can but you will rarely get all the essence.....Do an experiment and insert the needle next to the vent,get all you can,,,then remove the glands and repeat.......I nearly doubled the amount I'm getting by removing them......Good Luck....

When I was trapping in the UP of michigan we were averaging over an ounce of essense per skunk,,,But here in kansas if I get half an ounce I'm happy.....

You will get the best potential volume extraction with the total collapse of the glands which is thru open exposed skunk pod insertion with your needle.

The time of year, whether the skunk has sprayed in excess prior to capture or during the euthanisia process, all effect the end result amount of essence collected.

Periods of late December thru January and into early February will yield the highest volumes of essence collected due to the on set of breeding season. The essence production is at its highest level in the animals system during this time of year.

Kansas and further west skunks have yielded the greatest avg. amount of essence collected per animal in my experience vs. eastern skunk extraction numbers.

what is the best way to store the essense. What type of device or bottle do you store it in (corked bottle, screw cap bottle, glass jar?)

Glass bottles only with polyseal caps. These caps seal the bottle the best. Then stretch tape with electrical tape several times around the cap seam.

If polyeal caps are not available to you, get some saran wrap doubled over and screw the cap on very tightly.Trim off excess saran wrap. Warm a small can of wax and melt it. Insert your essence bottle lid upside down into the melted wax for several seconds then remove, let cool and redip once again. Store in a dark cool environment or place into an old coffee can with a lid then tape seal this container for long term storage.
