Well, Friday Jimmy and I made our treck to court to face the music. We got there about 40 minutes early and got to talk with the magistrate a bit before court. Once our time came, the magistrate was really good about explaining everything for us and also going through all the laws and what the maximum fines and stuff could be. It truely was a great learning experince for both of us. We had the trooper there as well and both Jimmy and I got to tell our part of what happened. In the end, $300 fine and the charge reduced to a violation.

Glad it worked out as good as it did. Did the trooper try to help you out or was he indifferent.
Oh, and my wife even LOL'd at that one pic.

TJ, glad to hear it went well. I had the troopers watching my oldest get his first moose. It was a spike fork on the Denali Hwy. We did it all legal and thankfully didn't make any mistakes. However they seem to think that I actually knocked the thing down and we had a little discussion on how long one should let a wounded moose walk. In the end we all agreed only as far as it can get between shots.

I had a friend get cited this past Sept. in Gustavus. This was the first year with a spike/fork or 50". He killed a bull that had two brow tines on each antler, and the way the troopers measured, (from the furthest point on a palm straight across to the other side) was 47" across. It had, however, a tine that stuck well out past the point measured by the law. He argues that using the "box measuring system", common in other states, the bull is 53". This way of measuring simply measures from outermost point to outermost point. Not a diagonal line, but rather like a box.

Uhh....I hear the "box method" is how it is suppossed to be measured. If it is done "farthest point to farthest point" or diagonal line, then that distance is GREATER than the box method (which is why record books use the box method).
He should have a good argument if they conviently left out the point that sticks way out.

TJ- year of "no similar infractions"?? No year of similar infractions issue. Just the $300 and it reduced to a violation.
