The Trapmaster is a cheap imitation of the Griz, and is not a GRIZ.

There are still some Duke (China made) Trapmasters out there for sale for $11.95. Jim McCulloch (the original maker) is now producing the Trapmaster again, here in Indiana. At the NTA in Lima, the new Trapmasters was selling for $18.95 ea.

My 60 Trapmasters still catches coon after coon.

best thing to do is look around for the best prices, they both have the same purpose, the griz is a heavier duty trap with a better spring setup and the trapmaster is basically the same thing just different, what more do you need to know?

Jim McCulloch (the original maker) is producing a great trap. It is so much stronger and better made then the Duke/china made ones. Jim showed me the two side by side. I could push down on the china ones and they would cave in...the ones Jim is now making are excellent traps. Tom

I personally got to look at the 2 versions of the trapmaster trap at the NTA in Lima and could find no difference in spring strength and or construction. Both versions I could easily pull back the spring with one finger....not good. Jim McCulloch has been told many times on what he needs to improve his trap....it keeps falling on deaf ears....too bad.

Back to work....

Gary I was talking about the steel frame. The quality of the materials used. I believe his new trap has plenty to hold coon. I won't use either right His or Yours, as both are two expensive for my taste. Tom

Why buy a trap you have to spend money and time to mod just to make it "Just as good as a Griz".

12 dollars smile

Now, I have to add that I just ordered some more Griz, and hung the "test" trapmaster up the same year that I got it. It did hold two coon, both about 10 lbs. It also had 2 pull-outs. Never have seen the pull-outs with Griz Getrz, but also understand that this year it will take 4 more of my coon to justify the difference in price per trap. I guess it's all a personal taste. I still have 20 year old victor 1.5's that catch and hold coon, mink, rats, etc. and believe that there are places for each trap set on the line.

Why buy a $22-$25 for $2 coon?
To each their own. I would sure rather pay $12 for a trap and catch coon then pay the price of the grizz. I have no experience in either the trapmaster or the grizz though.
I personally believe the grizz is just all hype. Sure they hold coon but pretty much any 1.5 coil will.
I can understand having a few because I can see where they would come in handy in certain areas but the guys with several dozen..?
The reason why I believe the grizz is all hyped up is because the people that have many dozens give out the impression to others that "You can't catch coon unless you have the grizz." Well you can.
I laugh everytime I see people say "The grizz are coon catch machines." It doesn't take much to hold a coon, but not only that though "its not the trap, its the trapper."
