I'm just a bit south of you in byram. Did you take the trappers ed class this year? If yes which one? Yes eric is very good. Probably catches the most mink in the state.

Ey jerseyfox, I live about twenty minutes from you except I'm in NY. It's a shame you can't use footholds over there or I'd get a non-res license. Lots of nice fox fields around Sussex.

You just set those snares in the fields that they run. Your going to do just fine. Yotes are a different story.

Do you have any private land to trap? if you want I can go over your line with you. Do some scouting etc. I am laid off for a few weeks or maybe longer until some work comes in. Helping out an animal control guy a few days a week, but have some time to help you out.

well we had a good convention. good number of guys showed. a little cold and damp, but it's november.
newt had a crowd. at anytime he had 6 or more guys working his area. little buck was put to work, working the cash. newt was running around answering a million questions. looks like snareone had a good day. looked like cash was moving good.
i ran into guys i knew from the cape to the guys up in the northern hills. guys from every part of the state showed up.
our trapping licensse classes the last couple years have been full. i don't know where all these guys are coming from, but the classes have been filling up in days. the sport of trapping has been the biggest growth in this states outdoors area.
one of the state teachers always says,"half of the people taking the class will buy the lic., then in january, half of those left will buy the new years lic., then half of those will dispatch, skin and put up, then never do it again". but they keep showing up for the classes. seems that the trappers are still coming up in the ranks. i saw a lot of kids today, very pumped to get out there and catch fur.

the pines have changed. lots of beaver, permit still needed. otter are everywere, still need the permit. coyotes have taken over the pines. there are very few deer in there now. i walked the pines last winter on a fresh snow. coyote tracks on every two track and fire cut. didn't see deer tracks for 4 hours.

there are cats all over the state.
talk to a coon hound guy.
same with bear. guys tree them all over the state.
with corzine out, we may get a DEP commisioner with some guts and push for a bear season. before some one gets killed.

cant set snares most of sussex for fear of catching cats when we looked for sign on 2 different farms we hunt and trap all were loaded with cat tracks same goes for a couple other areas we trap loaded with tracks
bears way to many in nj only matter of time before someone gets hurt or even worst
