I just ordered a couple dozen of these; I cant believe how cheap they are comparatively. 33$ each. I am putting 5 feet of chain on them with two shock springs and 5 swivels total - should be a pretty good set up.

I also ordered one Brawn trap to check it out - 98$ each.

Can anyone give me some feedback on how they like these traps?

As most people on here know, and are tired of hearing, I love the MB750W. I don't think I'd include the shock springs but the swivels are a good idea. I'd also go 10 feet of chain rather than 5 feet if you're going to use them for wolf. I prefer cable after a short section of chain.

I have never lost anything that has stepped into one of these traps..including wolves. They won't handle the crust that the #9 will but they will handle most conditions.

Ditto White's comments.
The following is all IMO - I have 10 feet of chain and two swivels on the 750 ( for Wolf ). If you trap in dry, less snow interior type areas - the 9 is nice for the power. If you trap in more moist, deeper snow ( freeze/thaw ) areas, both traps may frequently be out of commission. Sometimes buying several of both may be a good way to go in terms of economics and experimentation.
You will get strong opinions on both traps - especially from Wolf trappers. Some wouldn't own a 750 and swear by the 9 for Wolf. Others do fine with the 750. Both have caught lots of Wolves, although the 9 is considered the premier Wolf trap by many.
Somebody else will have to comment on the Brawn.

I think I am the only person on here who doesn't care for the MB not that it isn't a good trap it is. I just never became accustom to the funny trigger system on them. I always felt like my finger were in danger when setting them so now they belong to White 17.

get the 3/8th offset, that way they don't hurt as much when they catch a finger. and they aren't as hard on smaller K9's you may catch.
If you order from MTP, (sponsor of this site) they will add chain and swivels, weld for cost of materials only..

I have a few of both. I only have the MB750 for beaver and I have heard that the wolfers have much stronger springs. I think that they would do great on wolfs, but I use the #9 just because it has a little bigger surface area to me to mess up with. I would hate and I mean hate to get a finger in the #9. I wouldn't be suprized if it would take a finger off.

I enter the same sentiments as otterman. Don't like the set up in setting the traps. Have had them not spring in severe conditions where as the #9's and 114's did. I do have a few and they are the last ones set if I have that much wolf sign along the trail. Like said before, in the right conditions they will work. I have caught wolves in bridger #5's long springs and they are in NO WAY even a "decent" wolf trap. Catches were toe catches.

Love the wolfers. Won't take a finger off when offset (this I know!!). Use them for everything (little heavy for fox, but will work). And unlike Otterman and Northway, I REALLY like the trigger/pan set up. I think it is the best, and ONLY way for a pan/foot hold trap.

Alaskan,

I knew there was something wrong with you! I'll take my 114's and #9's any day! I've got some MB's for sale since you like them so much!

I don't think you can compare a #114 to any other trap out there. They are in a class of their own.

NW- Lots of things wrong with this hombre!!! Loving the 750s is just one of many! smile

You're gonna "SELL" your MBs???? I mean, if you don't like them you shouldn't want a fella to pay to take them off your hands!! Should be the other way around...and I do accept checks!

Why isnt there a trap manufacturer out there making a clone of the 114 Newhouse? Wouldnt it be a big hit?

Yes the 114 has teeth. Its a double longspring. Not to be confused with the #14 jump which also has teeth or the #14 double longspring which is just a #4 O/S with teeth. Same trap as the #44 & #48

This is a #14 jump;

This is the #14 ls.

These are #114's. They are about 50% larger than a #14

Oh yeah we have seasons but they vary around the state. No chain length restrictions or exposed bait restrictions. Jaw spread is restricted to not larger than 9 inches inside.
