I know in the past there been a several really good threads on weasels and beaver, But I've noticed there's never much talk about fisher trapping on here. Personally this is my favorate furbearer to trap, and I'm sure there must be some other Fisher trappers out there who are willing to share some of there knowledge or catch pics.

So I'll start things off, here a pair I took two years ago at two different sets about 1.5 miles apart. they were caught useing 160 conibears and wooden boxes baited with beaver and a dab of forget XLDC.

I would just like to catch one. We're allowed one per season here in WV. Never seen one though. Someday....

This year will be my first attempt at one. I would like to hear some tips as well. I will be waiting a little while before going after one, but would appreciate any advice.

All of my sets are on the ground or raised off the ground a few inches to deal with snow fall.

I don't know what its like in your neck of the woods, but in my area finding a natural leaner that fits that criteria would be almost impossible.

In WI, I wait until rifle season is over then I set 160s in buckets with venison scraps and Cross Bones on a pipe cleaner above the set.

Caught in a dirthole remake after catching a coyote. Asa's long distance coyote lure was used, has a skunky smell.

In your box sets on the ground how often do you catch lynx?

Lynx are almost nonexistent in my area so its not an issue. My most common incidentals are coons and weasels.

This is the 1st ever fisher I ever caught, I caught it in a cubby box with some beaver meat as bait.

This is my 2nd fisher I caught, it was caught in a mink set in a culvert.

This is it in the set.

They sure are some cool animals. Jess

Neat creatures !

In MN we are limited to 5, with a short 9 day season. Sets need to be at natural funnels or set on tracks to be effective with such a short window.

I take near all my Fisher on the ground. I favor the 160 and learned to swivel my traps well !

Beaver fleshings is my bait of choice. Gusto or a similar LDC is very effective. Sweet lures will also get lots of attention.

Here in Quebec we are lucky we have a 2.5 month season and no limit. Although its easy to over trap an area, so you have to learn to manage your trap line well if you want to trap fisher season after season in the same area.

Leaning pole sets with 160s or 220s... Beaver for bait, but have also used coon/venison/fisher....

Beaver, Skunky lure and 160's or 220's & anis when it gets real COLD! all my sets are in the tree's, we can't set on the ground. More worried with location rather then if the pole is leaning or not. Caught just as many on straight trees as leaning.
