Never used the trapmasters. Handled one and didn't care for the poor quality. I have a pile of grizz that I LOVE! I don't have the time to spend tinkering with traps to get them ready to maybe hold a coon. I'd rather pay the price for quality.

I've trapped coon for 30 years. Only been using the grizz for 2 years. Has totally changed my way of trapping! Best thing on the market since they come out with sliced bread!

coonergreen, sounds like you have made a worthwhile coon catching trap for yourself. As long as your happy....that's all that matters.

drewh, ease up Bud. There's a LOT more to it than you understand.

montoor cooner, keep on keepin' on!

Blue Ridge Twapper......your a MORON! whistle

Why buy a $22-$25 for $2 coon?
To each their own. I would sure rather pay $12 for a trap and catch coon then pay the price of the grizz. I have no experience in either the trapmaster or the grizz though.
I personally believe the grizz is just all hype. Sure they hold coon but pretty much any 1.5 coil will.
I can understand having a few because I can see where they would come in handy in certain areas but the guys with several dozen..?
The reason why I believe the grizz is all hyped up is because the people that have many dozens give out the impression to others that "You can't catch coon unless you have the grizz." Well you can.
I laugh everytime I see people say "The grizz are coon catch machines." It doesn't take much to hold a coon, but not only that though "its not the trap, its the trapper."

The Griz is a PET PROOF coon trap and that's where it really shines.

This thread was started to question the quality of TM's vs Griz, and suddenly it's down to bickering like a bunch of 3rd graders. Answer the guy's question with your opinion and let it go, would ya? Here's my thoughts on it, handle both and you'll notice the griz is better built, however, if the cheaper buy in of TM's suits you better, get them, any mods you may need to make yourself are basically free, we're all on a different budget here. Also, yes dog-proofs get you into alot of places off-limits to regular legholds, that's their selling point. However, if you're also using them where you wouldn't need to, you're passing up all the gray fox that are working you're coon sets.(Dog proof is Fox proof, pretty much) Now quit arguing about it, would ya'? Stand together or fall apart.

My first catch with a Grizz was a house cat in a barn. Darn thing ended up getting hit on the road.
