This is always a topic of diverse beliefs and practices. How often do you rebait a set. I tend to think every week is enough but what do you all think?

After only one week, things are probably just beginning to mellow out. A lot probably depends on humidity in your region. I try to stick with about two weeks, but I'm sure some guys would say that 3 is alright. Then again, after three weeks, many would pull the set.

I'd pull it after a week unless it was a cat or mink set. Bout the only time i rebait during fur season is after a flood...shane

After week, aren't you pulling, moving on to fresh faces? I would assume the rest of your line has caught majority of whats there to catch anyway.

And a lot of this question depends on what species your trapping and baiting I'd imagine.

A few sets Kirk.

But the majority aren't set in place for months at time, at least I would hope not! lol

To each his own,I personally rebait mink,or K-9 sets with fresh bait around 3-5 days. If useing stink bait most times never as as stated time to move sets.
It also depends on where the set is. If it's at a river crossing or something similar they stay till the weather forces me to move them.
Some big buck mink take a week or better to return.
Some hot spots for fox can produce all season, if their territories cross.

I only re-bait if they steal the original bait.

If the bait's still there, why replace it?

I am not talking hunks of meat and Nick yes I set the same mile section of creek behind my house all season. And I caught plenty of coon and five nice cats. I am with Kirk if the smell is gone I rebait, of course I can not detect odors like the critters but it is still helpful to see what others do. smile

why rebait a set that aint making catches for coyotes anyway.

if it makes a catch, rebait. if it dont, your in the wrong spott!
