Got a skunk job on a farm that is plumb full of barn cats.
I set 8 traps and am catching cats wholesale, with apples and other Non cat baits.
Do you have any type of bait that the cats wouldn't be interested in?...B...

What size trap are you using?...put a reducer on them...I just finished up a job where the cats were coexisting with the skunks very well and the cats would just go in to investigate on several occasions...I even caught one on birdseed...
....Pipe traps work very well from what I hear....

Wipe out all the cats first, you'll be doing native songbirds and wildlife a favor! smile

Yes, but so does Jameson or anyone else who makes nuisance baits and/or lures.
You may want to go with a liquid, as to not have any sight appeal.
Must be why the cats are going in, as they generally don't eat any fruit...

Also try an 8x8 size trap over the larger 10x10's or 10x12's. Might work in your favor, as the cats won't feel as comfortable squeezing in...skunks won't mind though.
Send me a PM.

Best advice ever. If the owner is concerned about mice.... skunks are 10 times better at mousing than any cat. Sounds like that would simplify this job.... you're already catching the useless hiss-bags anyway, then just leave the skunks!

Yep wipe out all the cats!

Many jobs require eliminating the non-targets first. Hope your charging for all those non target animals . Time is $$$.

Cats belong in homes (I guess) but never outside.I agree cats are terrible mousers and some cat lover probably started that lie anyway.

Think about the logic here the job is full of cats and full of mice.Duh!At least the skunks know how to fix the problem.

I catch cats in 7x7's on a regular basis when doing skunk jobs.

We do a fair amount of both skunks and feral cats. I like the Safequard 24x7x8 for skunks. I can't remember ever catching a cat in one set for skunks, but I use lure intended for skunks.

For cats I like at least a 9x9x26.

So maybe the smaller size trap is your answer because....
unfortunetly starving cats will be attracted to anything that remotely resembles food.

Don't think so?

Try trapping raccoons in a trailor park!

Yep, even stale chocolate donuts used as bait to avoid cats.

This very thing is why I use the pipe traps and 5x5 cages for skunks. A small kitten might go in one...but a mature cat won't. Least none I have ever seen. Skunks will go into either readily.

I would use the smaller traps and whatever skunk lure/bait ya normally would.

Ok all 8x8 williams traps, wiping out the cats isn't an option, little old lady and her cats.
Neither is charging for each cat caught an option.
Sometimes you just have to be a nice person, lets not forget a little PR here and there doesn't hurt anything!
I didn't ask about taking out the cats or charges for non targets,I can handle that myself....B....

I don't use pipe traps as all skunks get the syringe pole.
As of today I've caught 7 skunks on this job,2 coons 1 possum and 3 moles.
Also have two people that this lady has talked to that want me to do mole work for them, all in all a pretty good job....B....

This job was tough with dealing with the barn cats and all,the skunks had been eating out of the cat food pan in the barn right along with the cats.
So I had the lady put the cat food away at night,1st day no skunks second day I pull up and all traps are empty again, but i look over and there sits a skunk eating out of the food pan, broad daylight.
I walk up within a few feet of it and it didn't bother him 1 bit,so I go back to the truck and load the syringe pole, ease up on him,he looked at me and than went back to eating,I stuck him,he ran off a few feet under some junk and expired.
After that I had the lady feed the cats in the morning and evening and than put the food up.
It worked well,by the way this job was on my way home from work so it was no big deal to stop and check.....B....
