That's how I do coons. And coyotes, the same way only I remove the front feet before I start skinning and the opening cut goes to the vent instead of on the belly side of it a couple inches like coons. Fox the same as coyotes except I pull them by hand so I don't tear them, they have easy to tear hide.

MJ, In addition to ADC's video tutorial, these may be helpful to you as an introduction to pelt preparation as well. I saved these to my trapping library from previous threads in the Archives - many of the videos there had been lost.

This video series should quench your thirst for a little while to get you started with your original question.

These raccoon fleshing videos by three T-man members may be able to give you some instructions until you may be able to observe the pelt preparation somewhere in person. These men are experienced trappers and dedicated to their art, craft and techniques as instructors here to assist trappers of all ages.

There is also a series of instructions on putting up a coyote following member M. Howard's fox skinning presentation.

For additional information on technique, knives, tools and fleshing beams, may I suggest that you take the time to look through this T-man Archives forum if you are not familiar with it:

Fur Handling

There is a wealth of information and discussion in it that will help to shorten your learning curve.

All the best to you on your new adventure.

Jonathan

Are you numb? Lad, You got more than 2 cents worth with the expressions of videos and discussions on loan thusfar from the members who responded, including myself - it took me quite awhile to put that together for you.

The folks that live on here just gave you about $2,000 worth of free instructions. If you didn't notice that, don't bother taking up my time again.

Did you feel that deliberate spank? Without being in violation of the rules here, all I can say to you after that is: Stick It! I'll never take the time and effort to respond to another question coming from you.

Get a furry carcass and start carving on it without any of the instructions offered, wreck it, and do not bother think about becoming a trapper. Your credentials are not worthy. Give it up.

This might seem to be on the cruel side, but I meant it. Everybody is allowed a second chance, and I'll give you one after your response to my ink. Are you ready to hear from a no nonsense, unabridged elder dude again?

Yes, you can make your own fleshing beam, or you can buy one commercially to fit your needs and intent for the critters you mentioned if you do not have the necessary tools to shape one for yourself.

This is my original post on fleshing beams:

Fleshing Beams In Review

As I recall, there were 50+ of them illustrated in that editorial, but for some reason, the photos were deleted. I am working on reconstructing that thread that was in the Archives here, with nearly 80 total examples now.

Kind regards,

Jonathan
