i was just curious if a laminated 1.75 offset trap would work to drown beavers for a few weeks until i get enough money to get some 750's to use. i'm not gonna go set out a dozen, just 2 or 3 maybe if that many. i know it's not ideal but will it work on these south georgia beavers say 30-40 lbs or so? thanks jeremy!

Yeesh...I think you'd be better off just waiting until you can get the MB-750's.

You'd have to go for a front foot with the 1.75 and trap placement would be tricky at best. I have no question that the trap would hold a beaver however.

You can try it, but I don't think you'll be very happy with the results.

I agree with Kre. Unless you don't care about making your beaver trap shy, your better off waiting. 1.75's will hold a good sized beaver by a front foot, but not a back. If you do use them make SURE you have a good drowning system and get them underwater as soon as possible. If you don't have experience with foothold beaver trapping though, again, I would wait.

Wait, why even try? All you will end up doing is educating some beaver ... yea you may catch one ...but you will educate some more.

A lot of the guys here catch way more beaver than I do ... but I target and catch my fair share. Holding power or not, a 1.75 (IMHO) is NOT a beaver trap. Nor is a #2 and depending on brand a #3 is marginal, at best.

My opinion, is that you will not be able to gaurentee a front foot catch. Sure you can do things to help reduce a rear foot catch ... but you can not gaurentee there will be none ... then you will have some educated beaver.

Here is a pic of a rear foot from a 40lber over a Montgomery #2(was caught in a #5 Bridger Dls):

And there is a mid 60lb beavers back foot with its toenail hanging over the jaw of a CDR 7.5 inch trap.

Here in Ohio, its not even legal to set a trap smaller than a #2 for beaver.

Guy showed me a pole set for through the ice using a #2CS and the way its setup you get a front foot catch and the beaver has about six feet of wire and chain so he swims in a circle till he drowns. As its set so he pulls the pole out and then there's four five feet of wire or chain anchored at the holes edge.

Sure, works great, UNDER ICE! I don't believe Jeremy is going to be using that set in Georgia.

Here's a 54 pounder's foot in a Bridger #3. Got him with that high ankle catch but look how much foot is hanging out.

Here's a 56 pounder's foot, same trap.

Here's that same beaver's back foot spread out over the Bridger #3. Imagine what would happen if it was a 1.75.

Yes, you can SOMETIMES catch beaver in smaller traps, but you can also make a bunch of trap-shy beavers too. Save your
money and time until you can buy BEAVER traps.

I said try again because the first time the picture did not go thru.

Got lucky and caught this beaver in a 1 1/2 cs. The set was made for coons. Guess the beaver wanted to see what was in the huge hole in the bank. lol
