this will be my first season trapping, and ill be going after coons, among other things, and just wanted to say thanks to everyone for the great info. haha.

i do have one question, however, that i cant seem to find anywhere.... when using coilsprings, what do all you guys/gals set your pan tension to, for coons?

I loosen the nut up all the way so there isn't any. In case a mink visits my set

Or if you are trapping fox and dry land coon you can cut a chunk of 2x4 and weigh it, for fox and dryland coon you want about 1.5 lbs of pan tension

Just got done going through this entire thread and all I can say is WOW and Thank you!! I learned a lot and realize that I still have more to learn once I can get out there. I'm going on my 2nd season trapping and still looking for my first coon. Didn't get out too much last year with all the snow we had and also didn't have a lot of property to trap, hoping to change that this year. Although I can only use cages and snares, I still learned a lot about lures/bait/locations which is all great stuff. Really hope to be able to contribute to this post come the season.

I've had pelts in for as long as 3 years...usually the first two auctions though.
