Ok I posted the cleaning and rusting process using Vinegar...Here is the next two steps...Dying and Waxing. The dying process will be with Black Walnuts. The Waxing process is using a homemade double boiler.

Here are the traps cleaned and rusted for dying

Black Walunts gathered last fall....

Black walnuts and water in the dye pot

Traps being added to dye pot

Dyed traps

Double boiler made from a pop corn tin and a pot with traps being added

Waxed traps being taken out...

Fuzzy picture of a wsxed trap

Waxed traps drying...

Not sure why the pictures do not show them as black...but they are...lol

Hope this helps thoses who want to do it with out any hazardous chemicals.

This post goes hand in hand with the cleaning post http://www.trapperman.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/1459836.html#Post1459836

how long do you keep each trap in the dye?

i see you only did three at time, that would take awhile using logwood,

once you go trap, you never come back

I used logwood dye and it took about 24 hrs for about 2 dz. traps. I did all those traps a ounce.

I leave the traps in the dye for half an hour up to a couple days if I get busy else where. Then dry throughly before waxing. Tom

P.S. I put about 12 to 15 traps in the dye pot at a time, depending on the size of traps.
