The thread on blind sets and BE was great with alot of useful
info.I'm mostly a blind setter along creeks, any of you mink guys have some special sets you use on mink at ponds. Don't know to many minkers in my area and most wouldn't pass anything worth while along. Lucked out picked up quite a few properties with ponds and landowners tell me theysee mink running around them occasionally. Pics would be great.

Cubby sets and weasel boxes around the pond. If there is any creeks, wet or dry, that may run out of or into the pond, those would definitely be worth a few mink sets.

You dident say if the pond is open water or a marsh type pond

Also look for mink trails where the go from pond to pond or into the wood ect also pocket sets on old rat houses also work great after freeze up and look for open water spots along the bank for pockets Cubbys or other sets

But on open water ponds just about any set used on a stream will work just as well IE pocket ect

I have caught mink in ponds around here! I look for a over hanging rock on the bank not far from the pond were the mink will go to after he catches his food to eat it! Flat set with a small guide stick over the dog and that is it! Also on a pond that goes from a steep bank to a low flat bank I will make a blind set up close to the start of the steep bank in the water and put about a 1'' hole a few inches above it for my bait! You will catch coon with this one too! Dont have any pics but will take one at the start of the seasion!

Wow, this takes me back to Kansas in the 80s when I was stationed at Ft Riley. Anyway, I caught a lot of mink on Milford Resovoir(sp). The shore was either real sandy or rocky with a lot of tangled roots. The rocky shores seemed to be the best and I would make very visible rock cubbies at waters edge with about 2 inches of water in them and the set a #2 Double long in there nestled on some seaweed. In the back of the cubby I put chunks of carp or a skinned muskrat. I anchored the bait down pretty good in case the waves picked up.

open water, all bank dens, no rat houses. All have streams nearby which I will target for sure. The ponds I have a bunch of sets in mind, just hoping somebody gives up a killer set if there is such a thing, which there is if the pond in question has it. On bigger resevoirs around here the mink will run the land more than the water ice or no ice or thats what they're tracks indicate. As far as trails around the ponds in question, nada to many canadians walking and eating the grass or resting on the banks. After a week or two after the season starts I'll post what sets worked

Here's what works for me in ponds/marshes. If there is a an inlet or outlet, culvert etc, that's almost a sure thing. Bodygripper if the water is deep, foothold if shallow. If not, BE sets and or rat dens and especially rat runs, old or new. A real killer set is a rat den with an above water entrance.
Another killer on ponds with defined banks are the little trail/tunnels through the grass up on top the bank. If there are coon present, the trails will likely be wider, but also look for those faint mink trails. I still like footholds best, here, set light, guided tight and barely covered.

Thats what I was looking for on this thread the inlet and outlet if the ponds have them are the ace in the holes. Lastwinter tracked a mink into an obove ground rat hole, found another this spring. why did a Pa guy have to point these sets out? Our low mink population compared to other regions is so lopsided it's not even close, but at least we have some wink

Take some 4" or 6" drainage tile and bury it into the bank throw some fish in it, and a trap in front. A pond I trap, the water is about 5' from the grass, and nothing but mud flat in between. I will dig a trench deep enough for the water to get into it, and bury the tile there. Works great.
