Ive been useing speed dip the past few years and read on here that they can still smell it. Just wanted to know what everyone else does to keep them scent free.

Personally, I dye and wax all land traps.

I think that with some exceptions, you can probably use anything as long as you give it ample time to air out. As perhaps shameful as it may be to some, I have painted my footholds before, and didn't really notice anything wrong. Course, they spent 2 months airing out, and were stored in sealed tubs with sod chunks and leaves.

If you dip in paint, I have found that watering it down is best (3 or 4 to 1), and not to do a whole bunch of coats, the action of the traps got a little gummy.

I am trying F-1 this year, so I am interested to see what happens.

This may sound ridiculous... What about taking an individual trap after it's been dyed, dipped, and/or waxed, and storing in a plastic bag with a tbsp of baking soda to absorb or neutralize any odor? Is it effective? Has anyone tried it?

That is what i routinely do, except no baking soda. Just put the dyed waxed trap in a ziplock bag and seal it .

I don,t actually scent free mine I dye and wax them and then store them in wooden boxes with pine boughs / small pine limbs. I only trap fox. My wax has pine resin in it my dye is walnut hulls. I have been picking up walnuts the last 2 weeks

I too store and transport cleaned and waxed traps in tubs lined with cedar boughs.

I boil mine with walnut hulls, allow to dry than submerge them in hot wax until they are about the same temperature of the wax. I allow the wax to cool and put them in a clean tote with a snap lid. They are than placed away from everything else in the bottom of the barn until they are needed. Tried the dips and found that they can still be tacky to the touch months after being treated. Not a good thing in my book so I have switched back to tried and true methods. Worm

I am with wormbobskey.tried dip on some but still back to old faithful boil and wax. I store them in tupperware bins and take bins with me in truck during season. When I pick up or pull any traps they are put in a seperate bin for transport to be reboiled-waxed and repacked in a clean bin.

I do like dip for my connibears as they sure bite more often when the dogs get wax on them...LOL
