Sorry Guys if this is repetitive, but due to my slow internet hook up, I have not got the chance to search ALL the archives yet...So here goes: I'm at the finishing stages of preping traps for boiling, dying, waxing and was curious if the six feet of cable on my 330's should be removed prior to being boiled. I thought I had read somewhere that cable will undo itself if brought to high temps. I know I have another question or two but it escapes me at the moment...! Thanks in advance to everyone who helps me out!

As long as there are no corrosive cleaning agents added to the water- boil away. The temp of boiling water is no match for your cable.

Boiling the cable will remove the tiny amount of oil that protects the cable and cause deterioration from the inside out.

You are welcome to confirm that with Rally Hess.

Guys do you not wax your cable ? Not talking about the snares -just anchoring cable. After all its going to be put through the "ringer" anyway water, mud, sand, rocks etc. I dont see how any oil would still be there after a season or two. I treat my anchoring cable as I do my traps with the exception of any currosive cleaning agent - some are 5-6 yrs old. I have not noticed any problems . Those that have had to be repaired or replaced have been what i consider to be normal wear and tear. Guess I'll give them a very good inspection this afternoon.

I don't boil or wax my bodygrips either, I use speed dip or paint. I wouldn't recommend waxing bodygrips, unless you like sore fingers and forearms. Dying is OK, but without wax, you are not protecting the trap from the elements as good as you should. You really should, either paint them or dip them, for best results.

Oh sorry guys for not getting back on here. When I had said dying and waxing, I meant for all my traps but the coni's will not be waxed. I like my fingers too much. Also I'm using logwood dye on the rest of my traps. It sounds like you guys are pushing me towards painting. I'll be doing that then. THANKS FOR THE HELP!!

Rustoleum.

It takes 43 muscles to frown, 17 to smile, but only 3 for a proper trigger squeeze.
