A resident saw a raccon carrying one a third her size into a hole under a roof where there was a gap at the end of a log.
Catching the female up there in a live trap should be easy. The description of the size of the one being carried and the time of year tells me the young would be old enough to venture out onto the roof after MOM was gone and enter a live trap. The Fish and Game Dept. prefers problem raccoons be dispatched rather than relocated, so before Mom gets permanently removed, I'd like to have some assurance that my plan would likely succeed. Any thoughts?

My 1 cent for whatever its worth. Either you move the litter or let mom do it. Only way to know for sure. Cage traps aren't always as easy as they sound did a job 3 days ago where the neighbor lady had caught a coon fixed the hole , turned her loose and they moved on I tried for 5 days finally used a type of eviction lure.

Yeah, I think most of us are catching that size raccoon in cages now. If mom's gone they get real hungry and it's been my experience that they're pretty easy to catch. A customer called a couple hours ago and said I had another orphan baby in a cage and we still had four hours of daylight.

I agree that it is easy to trap the babies. but i dont think it is as easy to trap the mother coon. something about when she has babies makes them more difficult to trap. what i have been doing is starting out with an eviction fluid and if that does'nt work I have been using a one way door. but just the other day I was able to snag one of the babies as i was holding the baby by the back foot with my snake grabber i waited with my snare pole just outside of the gable vent and sure enough as the momma heard her baby scream she was out in a flash, right into my snare! the babies came the next night. now we got the customers home owners insurance ready to pay for an attic cleanout and sanitation. these are the days.

just a question here, if your charging by the animal, how do you charge when you just run eviction fluid and the animals leave? isnt that kind of like cutting your pay in half?

wiggler, if you run the eviction fluid, you should still charge for your time, and materials, then if you have to do some exclusion work then double your charge... coons in the attic trapped or evicted plus exclusion work should be charged around $300 TO $400.00 again this is business, not a volunteer job. good luck.

Dang straight on mama being tough to catch. I once had one tip toe around SIX 1079s for a week. I had every route plus a couple wild guesses covered with a banquet table of baits in the traps. The straw that broke the camels back was when I pulled up in the yard and the boys on the porch pointed her out in the tip top of an oak in the yard. All six went at the base of the oak. The hussy waltzed right past all six. 220 was hung over the entry immediately after!

David, I've been that route. If you had hidden one cage in the bushes somewhere, where Mrs. Raccoon thinks she "found it" you may have gotten her sooner, but then I can't argue with a good 220!

There is a large flat area under an overhang on the roof. The hole mama is using is under that roof overhang. I placed two big live traps there with both ends locked open last night. Sardines and marshmallows were in both cages and some marshmallows were thrown outside the cages. The "outside" marshmallows were gone this morning, but even marshmallows only 8" inside the cages were untouched. The resident last night watched mama move her 3 young into another hole under an overhang (dormer)on a different part of the expansive house. There is no flat spot there! If I ever get the critters out a roofer will have some exclusion work to do!

After pestering these roof raccoons by slowly moving cage and connibear box traps closer to their two roof entrances, they finally left the roof. They would only eat the bait just outside the traps. Frustrating, but they left so I guess that's an accomplishment. The owner has been instructed to replace soft screen soffit vents with metal grated ones. They'll be back this fall I'm sure to another house in the neighborhood. Thanks for your input.

Yeah, I had some baby coons and a momma in my back yard. I tried to catch em, and could only catch the little ones. Momma is no where to be seen.?.?

Riverman, I'm going to apologize for creating a generation that doesn't know how to vote; and in the case of Minnesota REALLY doesn't know how to vote!Ha
