OK everything is finally in place for us to make contributions for the wolverine survey. ATA is going to let us use the 501C3 entity to funnel the funds.

Check should be made out to Alaska Furbearer Management Council, or simply "AFMC."

I would note something like "GMU 14 Wolverine Survey" on the "memo" line.

That's a tough question Bonnie. I'd like to see as many people as possible have a stake in this thing but I don't want to raise too high a profile. The powers that be will surely get wind of this if they haven't already and I'd like to minimize their preparation time.

Personally, I think we'll make it with the exposure from this forum. Lets wait a month before we go "outside" the group. If the rest of the folks disagree with me, that's perfectly OK. This is everyone's effort. Not mine.

Yes $7400 but I think we should shoot for 8K. I think the survey will be March/april depending on weather.

No troubles Ken, I know quite a few people that wouldn't tattle to anyone and I'd just send them personal messages. When it gets closer to the end let me know and I'll go recruit.

To date I have received $1925 for the project. There may be some folks who sent donations directly to AFMC. I'm trying to get a report on that now.

The US Forest Service, Chugach National Forest, intends to award a sole source, firm fixed price purchase order using simplified acquisition procedures to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game to conduct aerial surveys of known wolverine habitat areas in the Turnagain Arm and Kenai Mountains for the purpose of collecting data to calculate the population size for the areas. This data will be used to compare wolverine abundance within and outside areas used for heli-skiing. This information should provide CNF with better tools to balance heli-skiing activities with wildlife habitat needs. The Alaska Department of Fish and game have the foremost responsibility and authority for the management of wildlife species in the State of Alaska. Alaska Dept. of Fish and Game has trained professionals to do this work efficiently and effectively. They are experienced in aerial survey methods for wolverine. Total estimated value of the purchase order is $30,000. No request for proposal is available for competitive quoting, however, interested parties are encouraged to submit a statement of capability for satisfying this requirement no later than 2 pm, 5 February 2009. The applicable NAICS code for this requirement is: 541990. The expected period of performance is approximately Feb 2009 – Dec 2011. Right now we have enough to just cover the cost of the survey. If everyone is ok with it, I think it would be smart to continue raising funds in case there is a further step we want to take after this or maybe even another furbearer project. The state is pretty skimpy with furbearer research funding.

Open to all ideas.

how about a 50/50 raffle through ATA....they get 25%, the funding for the surveys gets 25%.

Hmmmmmm that math confuses me. Maybe that's why my electric bill is so high this summer.

Winner gets 50% and the ATA/Wolf Study get to split the other 50%.
