Don't matter who's learning as long as someone is. wink

Good answers buy the way!!!

Thanks for playing along, all too often people get mad and run off and pout when they get confronted with the tough questions. They feel picked on when people may be just trying to get out the good info. Thanks LT.

Have you tried the BMI mini locks or Grawes bullet locks? I highly reccomend people give each of them a try as well before deciding on a good low profile dispatch lock.

I learn from both of you guys I am glad you post all that you do. Having said that there is only a coupla places . I could use those kill poles you all are building . Most of the places I use snares I either show up by a small boat or I walk in a mile or two walking in I would rather have a small knapsack with extension cables a couple of rolls of wire a couple dozen snares . I,m not really set in my ways I just started snaring again this year never got started good the first time. Using micro locks most of my fox did,nt need to be dispatched. The coon were a different story . I used penny washers and micros both gave the same results.

I used the small locks from the snare shop. I think they are called micro-locks? They seemed to work alright, but I did not have a J-hook at the time. I don't like putting a bend in my snare's, so they went the way of the buffalo for me.

I like my cable to run as in-line as I can. What I mean by that is well I'll just show ya.

Dang, this post is just getting better. Thanks to those that added to it.

Even though there are some states where trappers can't use kill poles or any kind of entanglement,( and some that wouldn't anyway), hopefully this will help out trappers who want to either learn how to snare or want to improve their snaring techniques!

In my opinion, deer scrapes make the best natural bait. I get mine from a processer.

This one however is a road kill. I took 11 coyotes at this location in about 2 months.

I,m not sure Lt I saw them in someone's catalog as being lighter and smaller then BMI mini locks so maybe not BMI Half of my coon/fox snares were 3/32 the other half were 5/64 7 x 7 trying to fine tune some things on this end really enjoy these post trying to learn as much as I can .

The Snare Shop makes them LT. They are good locks but can't out preform BMI mini locks on 1/16" cable for lock down power.

I've tried the Snare Shop...I was less than impressed with any snare I ever bought there!
Not for professionals, in my opinion.
So, so part timers...ah, ok...but why would you use substandard equipment even if you were a part timer?

Wouldn't you at least want to have professional equipment to start with?
I know I would!

Here is the type I use on my line. Like everyone said, the things are heavy and if I can't drive up to spots to use them, they will stay in the truck. I have better luck with my snare system then using alot of kill poles, but then I am walking in up to a 1/2 mile sometimes too.

The washer welded on the bottom of the kill pole is stop the pole from turning in the ground.

Anti-spin. Interesting set-up.
Somewhat different than mine.

I notice that your:
A) Snare is bright(untreated) without a swivel.
B)#9 wire(?) is not welded to the pole.
C) Pole is untreated(rusty-unpainted.)
D) Has a (crimp-on) deer stop on the cable.
(Not sure how the animal can choke up?)

Is this the way you typically run them?

I like that set up Dead Coyote have you concidered using something across near the top for them to hang up over? Getting their feety off the ground as you know will aid in putting them out even faster. Looks like you could go even shorter on your snares if you wanted, unless they are serving double-duty as fence snares ect...???

We have to use deer stops on all our snares in Iowa LT. It doesn't prevent dispatch on coyotes or big coons or fox either IF they hang up a little.

I like the set-up you have there...the cross bar for wrap up and a swivel just in case they don't.
Who do you get your swivels from?

They are #6 from the Snare Shop but Rally sells a #8 that is top notch!

ADC,
What are you treating your kill poles with? Is it just camo paint?

Why do you want the swivels when you use these kill polls for entangelment.
