I've been using an old beer keg I cut the top out of to boil traps. I cut the center out of the top and left the handles on it for moving. Seemed like a cheap container($25 deposit on the keg). I'm wondering if anyone else uses these and how long I can expect it to last?

them things are fairly thick if arent they if so it should last for a long time

That's exactly what I was thinking

I wouldn't wanna drink beer out of something that you couldn't eat out of anyway.

If that thing lasts me 25 years I'll be extremely happy! I wondered about the aluminum toxins. I wanted to try one for making apple butter. I'll have to research it a little more before I try it. For now I'll keep boiling traps/skulls in it. Thanks.

Aluminum has been implicated in Alzimers disease, not proven but suspected.

If you'll check....your keg's probably stainless, mine is.

I thought it might be stainless because it is fairly heavy.I'll get a magnet and try it.

leencat,a magnet will not stick to stainless or aluminum....if the keg is the same size around top to bottom it's most likely stainless and if it's bigger around the middle then the ends it's most likely aluminum.

Its probebly true,I seen good numbers of people that seemed like they had Alzimers after they drank a lot from an alumnium keg.

I have a stainless steel keg, had legs an a gas burner put on. I use it mainly for boiling peanuts but have cooked chichen bog in it an it was outstanding \:D

They have multible uses. I have thought about boiling traps in it but then again I cook food in it so I havent tryed it yet..lol
