Found this trap buried in the mud last season, actually had a coon dig it up that I caught. Anyway Tuesday I thought I'd get it out and make something of it.... I put it in a plastic dish and filled the dish with white vinegar til the trap was submerged, today I pulled out the trap and rinced it off, let it dry, and it's ready for dye, just a very thin coat of powder surface rust... I know it's still just a duke 1 1/2. ~ADC~

I've always used white vinegar to clean rust off of my traps. I mix it 50/50 with water and it works great. In fact, I've been using the same bucket, with the same liquid for the past two years. I just keep it covered to prevent things from getting into it.

LOL I don't know about that WD.
Yep, hangman that vinegar is $2 a gallon or so a very cheap easy way to revive rusty traps.

that stuff is a miracle worker, I did all my traps last year, and they came out new looking, some take up to a week soaking but it works.
I survived the death clutch of Boss Hog, and am now here for my 3rd tour of duty on Tman

Is that a Duke? Somebody probably buried it on purpose.

Glad you found my trap. Since you made it look so good, go ahead and keep it, lol.

Josh just for the record you can not leave your traps in it for long periods of time it will eat them right to just about nothing

I've heard that too zeak. No need IMO to soak them more than a few days anyway.

Got back into trapping a couple of years ago and had some awful looking traps. Some that looked worse than what was posted. Soaked them in vinegar for two weeks and took them to work and used the power washer on them. Could not believe how great they looked. Touched them up and replaced with new springs and were good as new.

Muratic acid is quicker, but it can burn you pretty bad, and the fumes can also eat your sack lunch...
vinegar is safer... will vinegar take the zink off trap chain??
Good Luck and God Bless you and yours,
