Steve, Calvins set example could be used with snares or dryland conis, in addition to the footholds. I think the snares would probably be my best bet here. I'll have to set this place up come fall and let yall know how it works.

All I do is find where the beaver are coming out of the water, make yourself a castor mound, about the size of a cereal bowl, and use a castor lure. I like pauls Backbreaker. NOW heres where I do a little different then most, Or maybe not. Get yourself some Fresh bait, something nearby peel the bark off so the green and white is showing and place that on your mound or in front and to the sides. This is your Visual attractant in case the wind is not in the beavers favor at the time, but he will spot that fresh bait. Place your 330 right in front of that mound, within a foot or more, and stake and tie your trap off. Make sure you have both sides of the slide or whereever you make this set block the sides, so he doesn't go around. I'll bet you get one first night of doing this as long as it's open water!!!

I'll put money on it. Make sure he can see that bait, Nothing huge, maybe the diameter of a quarter at the most. Another thing you can do is build your mound and in front of it place a peeled bait stick in front, once he or she investigates, the lure will do the rest. Stake your trap good so he don't knock it over, because some will come charging right in!!! You want that 330 or i've used 280's right in front of that mound, don't be afraid to block and narrow it down...

One more thing, I would advise setting the trap about 1/2 to 3/4 in the water if it's a real drop off, Get yourself some sticks about the size of a broom handle and shove them directly in the side of the bank, IF IT's as steep as you say, this will support your 330 that is if you are planning on using them. Use two for both sides of the trap. This will keep it stabalized and low enough so he'll get his head through. I've been offsetting my triggers 8 inches state law and getting them around the front shoulders consistently.

move up or down river to a location easier accessible and higher catch percentage, assuming this is fur trapping. i am not much into that forcing deal like you are describing. big waste of time and almost alwasy can catch same animal a short clip away.

in this exact spot, moving 50 yards to a better spot is an option......but what would you do if this is the best spot you've got????

hard to see exactly what is going on in that situation. if lots of boat traffic with waves, then snares on land or dirt sets up on the bank if legal. if that dont work, likely more trouble than the pelts are worth so move on down the line somewhere.

Eric, Put up a Tree stand and Wait till Dusk, Pull Both Triggers on your 12ga double... the 18 pellets of Double-0 should do the trick!!!

OH, did you want to Save the Hide? LOL!!! crazy confused crazy

I'd do the fake chanel thing myself, but I'd use a 660, mud mound and a coupld fresh white peel-sticks is all you'd need. Make sure to Cable off that 660, they ain't cheap you know.

And one more thing, don't use that Thumb too much! lol! thought you were suntanning in Mexico?

Thanks for the tips Scott. I'll send you the hide and you can do the sewing on it! lol

I'm probably gona get me a couple of them 660's before next year, but I won't be using them in spots like this. I do have a few wide channels they would fit in nicely though.

And it's hard to get a suntan down here in Burritoville while working nights! cool
