I have 3 Dexter beaver knives. So I always have one razor sharp, ready to go. They might not be the most expensive or the best....but they sure do the job for me. A real joy to use!! I'm completely satisied with them.

I've got a couple Dexters and don't really have the need or desire to try any others. I played around with a buddies Dunn once and wasn't too impressed....not that there's anything wrong with it....I just don't need it.

Green River brand knives are great economical knives in many different styles.

The best knife is one that is easy to sharpen and holds an edge. Doesn't really matter what the brand name is as long as it meets those requirements. With that said my favorite happens to be a dexter fillet knife.

I'll have to take a pic of one of my "homemade" beaver knives and post a picture later. I have a Dexter but also use a "Pastry" knife (cake frosting spreader) that is honed sharp it's entire length (9" blade). The tip is rounded off completely and sharpened around the tip and on the backside about 3". This works as a fleshing knife also.

Not to hijack the thread...but what exactly do you find wrong with it?

I use a Dexter round point, and a diamond steel. I make the opening cut with a Case Trapper ATS-34 pocket knife, also for skinning around the head. Lopping shears to cut off the feet.

I bought a knife from trapper Art in WI. called trapper Pauls rough skinner and it is way better than dexter and it is not overly priced. Its handmade and beefy.
