trapperMN get some paint on those traps, rust perminately marks white weasels hairs. In a pinch you can use electrical trap to cove up the rust on the trap, just fold it over the steel, and set.
All the strike bars of my victor wooden traps are covered.
Blood and moisture really rust the steel, because their skins are so clear the grader can see the rust marks, and they get down graded.

You might get lucky using the small chunk of mice but I would be putting more with it. Get you some liver from the grocery store. The cheap stuff is fine. That little mouse won't put out enough blood smelling scent. You need that to get them close.

And moles make poor bait so if you guys catch one just toss it.

And yes Jbotto the pressure is on!!!

trapperMN and I are both pulling for you so hang in there and it will happen.

I agree with racer !

In this cold weather I would want a little more calling power then a half a mouse. I believe a tub of chicken liver is still only about $2. Tub is half fresh blood, and enough bait for more then a dozen boxes.

stinkey makes a very good point !

You do not need your snow white Weasel to roll around in blood. Many choose to use a mushroom can to hold the bait, trying to keep the box as clean as possible.

If you set your traps in habitat where weasels like to go, regardless of seeing tracks or not you will catch them if they are around. With typical snow conditions changing daily, they can be regular visitors to your site and you may not see sign. For many sites you may only have a visitor once a week or so and in the end if you catch a few or more it would be considered a hotspot. It is also the exception to catch 2 in a row at any set. Usually the set sits dormant for a while before connecting again. From this experience I would conclude that the event of a capture does not improve it's effectiveness.
All locations are not created equal. The best looking spots can often prove not be the best producers.

ermine 88, so far this season!
