This is a trenchset I put out today to the best of my abilities...haven't got this one down yet. Can anyone offer any advise on what I can do to make this better, or what's wrong with it..I made it based off of Asa and a couple others descriptions on how a trenchset should be made.Just wanting some feedback..Thanks.

I dont make the "Mouth" of mine that wide. Just about the width of my digger or trowel. I dig straight down about 6 inches and put the hole in the bottom. Then get wider as i dig back for the trap. i think this keeps the animal from digging at the sides. They have to step on the trap in the trench to get at the bait.

Other than that it looks decent. Would probably catch yotes the way it is.

You say the mouth do you mean the end with the hole on the back side, or out closest to you?

sorry about that. I mean the end on the back side with the hole. As you come out away from the hole you have to naturally dig wider for the trap.

Good luck with the trench set. With my limited experience with the set, I often times found a track or two on one or both ridges (on each side of the trap)as they didn't want to step down into the trench. Thinking back, I am guessing the angle of the hole had something to do with that. A more horizontal hole angle would have likely been better. I suspect you "may" find a track right on the left side of the trap on the upper ridge in that photo (ones that wont commit to whats down the hole). I/m not bashing that set. Lots have real good luck with it, I know. I didn't, however. But that maybe my fault. Good luck.

You can really learn from watching a dog dig. I make all kinds of sets in the yard from time to time. Bait em up and watch him go. The wife thinks i'm nuts...lol

Yo Deadfox, I think I seen that exact Quad on a Haunted Hayride back in October. LOL. How often do you use that set??? What type of tool is used to move that much earth??

i use trenches for cats sometimes....

i like them not quite so deep and a little narrower.....
