I don't know how many of you ordered Tim Phillips (aka Ohiobuyers) The secret sets that made me famous book and DVD, I did.

One set in perticular sparked my interest. The set consists of a 50lb bag of bird food. You bury the bag standing up and set five traps (in the shape of a star) right on top of the buried bag. Theory being once the mice find the food, the K'9's follow. Anyone ever try this set? Thanks in advance.

I thought so to. But the book says it should be "high quality" bird food. That's even more exspensive! eek

If 50 Lbs doesn't work try 100. I can't see me digging that big a hole to set a trap by. Why would you waste the time even if it does work.

Screw the trash K9's and cats. I want to know if it will catch possums? That's the question.

I think if you wanted to catch possums you could just make a regular dirt hole!

For me that would be a change up. A hole the size of a 35 gal drum. I think you would be wasteing more then you were gaining. You can make a lot of differnt change ups much faster and easier. Try it out and let us know how it works.

Did they have a # to call for this high quality bird food at the end of the video? If so then it all adds up.

you cant do that using a STAR pattern, it HAS to be a trapezoid.

it will never work woth a star.

If it is the mice that you want to attract them there them why not just trap a mouse and us it. I can trap a lot more mice in a mouse trap and do it for much cheaper.

If I was going to use this set i would not use the star or trapezoid pattern...it would only work if you use 10 traps and make a circle around the bag......no gaps that is the secret to the whole thing....

Stanley Hawbaker outlined putting mice in a tin travel cage in the back of cubby sets. The copy of his book I have is from the 1940's. (So the whole mice scent at your set idea has been around for a while!) grin

If you want to attract things with mice, use live mice or an electronic squeaker! You can also raise some of those .99 cent mice at the pet store and put their dirty cedar bedding in your dirt holes, or use them to scent your weasel boxes.

yes but wouldnt mulitple sets produce multiple catches? ive also heard that it is recommended to dig the holes for the elephants by hand while in a hazmat suite, to keep scent to a minimum
