My bride decided to take only 1 seal a year,,here's a 200lb+ male that is her best to date. The ducks just showed up here and the river is opening geese a few days off, hopefully.

Jeff, I'd like to see a close up on that face.

Jim, those seals always look like they are wearing dry suits. smile

Well done. How far from salt do they get in the winter under the ice?

Bob These are resident seals that don't ever see salt water. They live under the ice about 1/2 of the year utilizing the edges around the islands and rocks for breathing while feasting on a lake full of trout and salmon smolt. There is a retired chap from Iguigig who is going to spend the summer on the lake in an attempt to catch, photo, or ?? The Lake Iliamna Monster! I'll give updates as they happen. Jim

Heard a comment once that because they never see salt water, a case could be made that they could be hunted by non natives. I wouldn't want to be the test case after being cited by the Feds. They are still seals.

Kusko,Michael does amazing work.
Check out his gallery on his site.
I am sure he would show some close ups if you ask him.

Keep us updated on the Lake Monster as we have one down here also. I've seen seals up here in the winter on years where the river ice was shakey. I've seen them as far as the Narrows which is an easy 40 miles from salt.

Tanana went out at Nenana last night. Been warm here all week and the rivers are rising fast.
