Some days the coon will run, sometimes not a one will move. I trapped Southern Illinois the past couple years for coon, and ran primarily 220's with excellent success. I mainly used trail sets with 220's on a stand, and a dozen or two baited buckets

My remakes use the same trap and remake the dirt hole. No lure, no urine. Of course, this is only when I catch the target animal initially.

That second pic is priceless! I enjoy trapping and hunting with the kids WAY more than when I'm alone. It's cool seeing things thru their eyes, when everything is new to them. Great job!

Bigger the trap the better. I do a lot of stream and river trapping so I use a lot of the 1.5 and up traps. If you do trapping on slides, I would not set anything smaller than a 1.5 at a slide set. Learned that lesson my first time trapping rats, too

I agree with Slim with emphasis on checking your state laws regarding visual baits.

I would guess, not many coon going by the buckets. Make sure you are setting where the coon are.

Pull them back out and see what happens. Another thing, try to squeeze out as much of the water from the rat as you can at the set before putting it in the bucket or pack basket. If you got snow on the ground, roll them in the snow a bit and that wi

trapperreynolds asked...I have wax dirt, wonder if that may be it? But I am using wax dirt on everything? Using some form of anti-freezing sets is a necessary evil but just about any method will cause some digging or set avoidances being they are un

A lot would depend on where you hang the wing (is that legal by the way there?) If hung directly above trap, yes it would make coyote shy away. If hung ten feet away, no.

I have to disagree, I had never heard any of his music til this thread. I checked out all the you tube stuff on him and listened to about 5 of his songs, that was about 5 too many... He even says in his interview that he is rock n roll. In my opinio

Deer don't care either way. It's just another familiar smell in the woods to them. My older bro. used to use it as a cover scent while bowhunting and it worked well for him.

I prefer bait myself. The catch circle smells to high heaven like whatever it was you caught, bait would add more intrigue for a fox/coyote than what I would think lure would do.
